Hayden Smith

Chief Executive Officer

Hayden Smith serves as Chief Executive Officer for United Risk, overseeing the firm’s non-U.S. operations across seven MGAs, generating more than $600 million in annual premium. Since joining United Risk in 2023, he has led the development and strategic growth of the company’s international businesses, driving corporate development, governance, regulatory compliance, finance, and operational performance across multiple jurisdictions.

Prior to joining United Risk, Hayden was Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions at Enstar Group, managing complex legacy transactions and capital-relief initiatives across Lloyd’s and U.S. markets. Earlier, he served as Head of Ceded Reinsurance for StarStone, a global specialty carrier jointly owned by Enstar and Stone Point Capital, where he directed global reinsurance strategy, capital modeling, and risk alignment across specialty insurance portfolios.

Hayden began his career in treaty reinsurance at JLT Re, focusing on North American property and casualty programs and U.S. workers’ compensation. This early experience across broking, underwriting, and capital management gave him a multidimensional understanding of the insurance industry that continues to inform his leadership today.

Before entering insurance, Hayden had a successful professional sporting career in both rugby and American football. He played for Saracens Rugby Club in the English Premiership, earning European and domestic titles, and later became the first Australian to record an NFL reception as a tight end for the New York Jets. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Alex Amezquita

Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Alex Amezquita serves as Chief Financial Officer for United Risk, overseeing the firm’s global financial strategy, operations, and capital management. He brings over two decades of leadership experience spanning corporate finance, strategic planning, and business operations, driving financial performance and supporting the company’s global growth initiatives.

Before joining United Risk, Alex spent seven years at Herbalife, a $5.8 billion global nutrition company, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he led finance, strategic, capital markets, and global transformation initiatives, including building the Global Business Services organization, which centralized operations across finance, human resources, legal, and customer support, enhancing efficiency and scalability across the enterprise.

Prior to Herbalife, Alex spent a decade in investment banking, advising clients on mergers and acquisitions and shareholder activism. His experience includes senior roles as Senior Vice President at Moelis & Company and Principal at Centerview Partners, following an early career in M&A at Merrill Lynch. Before entering business school, he spent nearly ten years as a computer engineer, designing telecommunications chips.

Alex holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and both Master and Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Rick Christofer

Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer

Rick Christofer serves as Chief Commercial Officer for United Risk, leading the firm’s commercial strategy, business development, and underwriting initiatives across its global operations. In this role, he drives growth, strengthens client relationships, and implements innovative solutions that enhance the company’s competitive positioning in the Property & Casualty market.

Since joining United Risk, Rick has held a series of senior leadership roles, including President, Managing Partner, and Chief Underwriting Officer. He brings over two decades of experience across specialty product development, treaty reinsurance broking, facultative underwriting, and commercial insurance, including leadership positions at American International Group, General Re Corporation, and Guy Carpenter & Co. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and consistently delivering creative, results-driven solutions.

Rick began his career in commercial insurance underwriting at The Hartford Insurance Company, gaining foundational experience in both client-facing and technical underwriting roles. This early exposure shaped his collaborative approach to leadership and his ability to bridge technical expertise with business strategy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame, where he competed on a four-year varsity soccer scholarship.

Andrew Lucas

Vice President, General Counsel

Andrew Lucas serves as General Counsel for United Risk, overseeing the firm’s U.S. and international legal affairs. In this role, he provides strategic counsel to the company and its business lines, manages litigation and regulatory matters, leads mergers and acquisitions and other transactional work, and advises on corporate governance and regulatory compliance across the enterprise.

Prior to joining United Risk, Andrew was a partner at Clyde & Co LLP, where he advised insurance-sector clients on a broad range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. His practice included supporting clients in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, Lloyd’s market transactions, and complex regulatory frameworks.

Andrew’s expertise combines deep knowledge of the global insurance landscape with a practical, business-focused approach, enabling him to navigate complex legal and regulatory environments while supporting United Risk’s strategic objectives.

Gregg Holtmeier

Chief Commercial Officer

Gregg Holtmeier serves as Vice President of Strategic Development for United Risk, where he leads the firm’s mergers and acquisitions, partnership alliances, and broader strategic growth initiatives. In this role, he works across the organization’s global platform to identify and execute opportunities that expand distribution, enhance product capabilities, and strengthen United Risk competitive position within the market.

Before joining United Risk, Gregg was a senior leader at BMS, where he played a key role in driving strategic expansion and partnership development. He previously held leadership positions at Guy Carpenter and JLT, focusing on business development, client strategy, and reinsurance placement across diverse markets. With more than two decades of experience in insurance and reinsurance, Gregg has built a reputation for his entrepreneurial mindset, disciplined execution, and ability to turn strategic vision into measurable growth.

Gregg began his career in reinsurance shortly after graduating from Swarthmore College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. His deep understanding of global reinsurance markets, distribution networks, and capital deployment strategies continues to guide his work as he helps shape United Risk evolving growth strategy.

Patrick Watson

Chief Operating Officer

Patrick Watson serves as Chief Operating Officer for United Risk, leveraging more than two decades of experience to drive operational excellence and strategic growth across the organization. In this role, he leads initiatives that enhance efficiency, strengthen execution, and align the firm’s global operations with its long-term business objectives.

Before joining United Risk, Patrick held several leadership positions at Applied Underwriters, including Director of Program Development, where he played a key role in building operational infrastructure and process efficiencies for MGAs across the Property and Casualty marketplace. His ability to connect strategy with execution and lead through collaboration has positioned him as a trusted operational leader within the insurance industry.

Patrick’s career spans more than 21 years across operations, sales, and product development, giving him a comprehensive understanding of how to scale complex organizations while maintaining agility and discipline. He is known for fostering a results-driven, team-oriented culture built on accountability and innovation.
